This is why you shouldn't trust 30 year old pop culture for your pop cultural references.  I'm 35 and have never heard of prison referred to as "stir".  According to Wikipedia, the slang term "stir" referring to prison was popular in 1851.  The term "stir crazy" is still used today.  "It is now used to refer to anyone who becomes restless or anxious from feeling trapped and even somewhat claustrophobic in an environment, usually a confined space, perceived to be more static and unengaging than can any longer continue to hold interest, meaning, and value to and for them."

Everyone here either calls jail "county" or "pen" , depending on if they mean jail or prison. Sometimes they also just say "upstate" but that just be a regional thing as the penitentiary is upstate.

I remember my grandmother called it hoosegow

So if we use old terms or terms we've become familiar with, then people just have to wear it.

That's one thing I love about this place.  I sometimes have to go scrambling to find out what something means or what it is, where is it located, etc.  I'm sure that I've gotten more than one member to shake their heads at some of my antiquated ideas and language, but I'm sure I've been entertained by more members than I've entertained.

So whether we spell it gaol or jail, watch football or soccer, drink tea or coffee, we're all intense, weird, and funny.
