Muslim = religion.  NOT race

Polish = language (in this context). NOT race

There often is the mixup of religion with ideology when it comes to Muslim. Both by some Muslims, as by some politicians.

[/earnest reply] (it is the laughter section after all. :p )

The problem is that i posted a joke that wasn't politically correct.  It was copied and pasted from elsewhere.  I didn't 'write' the joke.

I did however smirk when i read it.  You see the problem with jokes, is that they are usually about someone.  There are jokes about 'blondes',  about 'men'  about 'the wife',  about 'fat people'   the list is endless.  I made a joke about the worlds second largest religion, well i am glad i didn't pick on a minority group then.  Once you start saying 'you can't make a joke about this subject or that subject' before you know it there is a whole damn list of em.

I think you are assuming that because i made a joke about something THAT I ACTUALLY THINK EVERY FACT IN THE JOKE IS TRUE.  Well if that were the case why wouldn't i just make a new thread up elsewhere stating these facts??  Do you honestly think that i actually believe these people wear towels on there head??  Do you think i believe all Irish are stupid?,  or all scousers are thieves?  or all american's are fat?  Erm ...no of course i don't.  So why am i having to explain?   Surely you do not suggest that every joke told on any forum, or in any pub, or on any stage, and by anybody is actually the strict views of the teller?     Jokes do not have to be factually  correct.

You have presented me with an argument, and i am like...well yeah i agree with some of the things you are saying,  but why are you telling me??  hell i just made a joke on some message board.  I don't particularly want to debate religion or politics or human rights.  You are the one making assumptions about my whole personality on the basis of one flippant joke.  i cannot believe your reply.  It is something i would expect to find in a serious forum of serious debate!! ....and it was after all just a joke !!!

I do not believe in censorship of jokes.  There are some jokes i don't find particularly funny.  The other day 'Jordan' created a fuss in the press because a comedian had made a joke about her autistic son.  A friend of mine assumed i would be on her side because i also have an autistic son, and autism in my family.  Erm....no.  The joke was 'Model Jordan and Footballer Dwight York are in a bitter custody battle  -  they are arguing over who doesn't have to take custody of son Harvey'    Now i don't find that funny.  However i defend the comedians right to joke about it.

CENSORSHIP OF JOKES IS JUST NOT FUNNY.  TELLING OTHERS WHAT THEY CAN AND CAN'T LAUGH ABOUT IS JUST NOT FUNNY.
blah blah blah

It all depends on the context, as everything does.
Would imagine the context of this thread to be light hearted.

You're right, I was making an assumption, and being a little ignorant. I apologise.

So I guess that makes it ok? That's pretty much what the bullies told me at school, "It was just a joke!"

*shrugs* Carry on.

'' bullies "  eh   wtf??

*waiting for some kind of intelligent explanation here*

is it that if someone makes a crap joke about muslims then they must be a bully?

or

in the absence of any evidence of bullying any person making a crap joke about muslims deserves to be banded with bullies?

I don't get the correlation ...

can we just continue with furry things and jokes??
blah blah blah

I was using bullies as an example of one group of people putting down upon other group or individuals, and using the justification that they were just joking, so their behaviour was ok.

Using "it was just a joke" to excuse bullying is totally different.

The intent here is not to hurt/harm anyone.

The intent perhaps was not.
