Is Autism a Learning Difficulty?

Question that effectively came up in my exam, presumably with the assumption that it is not. Answers anyone?

School is an autism difficulty.

school was fine for me, it was the social aspect that sucked the big one....

If it were just me and a teacher, I'd absorb like a sponge.  but I remember one class where I actually stood up and challenged a girl to say what she really thought of me, since it was all just overwhelming and confusing.  Later in life, I realized that you don't really want or get an honest response in that setting.  they probably thought I was on acid....   (which, actually HELPED my reputation)....  I loved cheech and chong movies at the time...

"Man, that was the most acid I ever saw anyone take at one time, man."

I learnt heaps at school but couldn't get the work done. I failed subjects despite getting %90+ on all the tests.
This brain could do with some more dimethyltryptamine.

I believe autism is officially a "developmental disability". I've got no clue whether your curriculum files that in the same category as learning disability or not.

Unfortuantly its not even mentioned in the lecture notes, most of the people in the exam had no idea exactly as to what it was.

Then I would go with "yes".

Aren't multiple choice tests lovely?

Yes would have been the wrong answer. The other choices were Mathematics Disorder, PDD and somethng frivelous that i cant remember. My point is that both mathermatics disorder and autism were the right answer. I might kick up a fuss.

Oh, well, you didn't say PDD was one of the choices! I thought we were talking yes/no.

PDD stands for "Pervasive developmental disorder".  :P

Yes it is, Amber is officially classified as having "autism" to get the extra coaching and time she needs to take exams or learn study and organizational skills.  But, I'll agree with Peter that school is an autism difficulty.

As for Multiple choice tests, there is a strategy to that type of test.  My nursing boards were all multiple choice and if we hadn't been drilled in the strategy of state board test taking, the noise and pressure/sensory overload would have overwhelmed me.

I used to get just enough done to get C's with the 90's on the test it used to really piss off the teachers

It's not. Whoever thinks that is incorrect.

It is disputed though as to whether it is or isnt. Something that perhaps shouldnt be as a dummy answer on an exam paper.
