I'd like something built during this century, something that would require very little maintenance.  :elvis:

Yes, I actually read posts. Our opinions re maintenance requirements seem to differ somewhat, that's all.

Well, most older houses are a lot of work. I know mine is. I do what I have to in order to keep things running. :)

My neighbor cut down a tree and it fell on his house today.  :)

I SO wish I had my camera.

He's already got it down, with no apparent damage.
I came to this world with nothing
and I leave with nothing but love,
everything else is just borrowed.

Fuck it, we'll do it live.

I find older homes require a special type of person who wants one.  I can almost feel it when in an older home the history of the place I find it comforting to know people had been living there a long time.   The worst thing is a person can do in my opinion is destroy the character of an old home like they did to my grandmothers after she died.  It was  from the 1840's and had many features that were very desirable in an older home such as wide plank flooring,  multiple fire places,  restorable siding , a freshly repaired slate roof and a privet walled off secluded garden all of which disipeared when the new owner  turned it into an a freaky abomination of a contemporary

i can sort of beat that.  my friend and i were cutting down a bastard leylandii at the back of a neighbour's garden.  well, he was doing all the butch work, with the chainsaw and stuff, and i was relegated to hacking up the smaller branches.

anyway, i yelled, "timberrrrrrr!", as you do, and the sodding thing feel the wrong way, into the garden of one of the houses backing onto mine.

can you picture the scene?  there's lynden, in shorts, big fuck-off boots, ear protectors on the top of his head,  and safety goggles, and me in shorts, big fuck-off silver boots (one has to stay stylish, even when doing manual work, i always say), purple hair, covered in sap and still wielding the bow saw, both traipsing round to the poor unfortunate who has added tree in his/her back garden.  we were hysterical, because all we could think of was that we had to say, "can we have our tree back, please?"

:LMAO:

luckily, they weren't in, so we just hopped over the back and bodged the tree back into my neighbour's garden.

i'm still giggling at the thought now.

Post silly mistakes you or you have seen other people make

Always buy your siding with the same lot number
This is a local church I guess they thought it would blend in time it's been years

That looks like a virtual photo?  The side building on the left and the hedges do not look real.

I lived in a 1989 house for nine years and boy the house had a lot of mistakes because the builder my parents had hired did a lousy job. The ceiling was too low, the hallway was narrow, we had this gap in the laundry room where the sink was meant to be but because the room was built too small, there was no room for a sink. Only for washer and dryer. There was also a lump in my parents bedroom near the fake fireplace because the builders had made a mistake there with the wood. Also the fact the paper that goes on the house under the siding, was only put on in some parts and the rest had none.
We didn't have the siding thing fixed till we had new siding put on in '98 and my parents bought house paper and they siders put it on for us and then the new siding. My mother did not know their old builder did that until my mother was looking at pictures of when the house was being built and then she said "He didn't put (I forget what the paper is called) on?" Boy was she upset over something that happened eight years before.

But for the rest of the mistakes, no one would never guess the house has a lot of mistakes to it unless someone points them out. Only my parents knew and my brothers and I because they told us. They knew because they had the blue prints of the house and it tells you how wide the halls are supposed to be and how high the ceilings are supposed to be too.

My parents never hired another builder again. Instead they were the bosses when they built another house in 2000-01.
