the drivel/dv. can't download a backup - the fucking sql server seems to be on a go slow so I only get a fraction of the file. :hair:

I've given up that a long time ago. When the db gets to be too large and the timeouts are too short (which the Hostgator folks practically admitted was the case), downloading a backup like that doesn't seem to be possible anymore.

Try MySqlDump database backup script instead, but disable the optimize function. And put the board(s) in Maintenance Mode while doing the backup. I2 needs to, in any case, these days.

drivel had a few tables which needed upgrading, dv was fine. doesn't seem to have made much difference - I'm just puzzled why the file size has shrunk so much.  :-\

...and you wouldn't believe the crap I found on my server space. remind me next time I offer to help someone out not to bother. :headexplode:

Odeon - I finally worked out what was wrong. The physical space the uncompressed db occupies itself has shrunk dramatically - maybe the way the SQL server is set up has changed in some way to store data more efficirently or something. So after all that my backups should be fine, just very small.  :laugh:
