Really, the smoking is the best example.

I read that several places

It is more of a fact due to perception.   There are some great traffic studies on the colors of cars as well done by Germans (BMW mostly).   Some cars are seen as a entirely smaller model if they are black than if they were white.

My cats eat their own vomit if I don't clean it up fast enough... each other's, too.  Fortunately, I've figured out which variety of cat food minimizes the vomiting (Purina One "Sensitive Systems" formula).

I hate carpet, too, and would rather have tile.  But this is an apartment I live in, and it's whatever the landlord wants.  Just another reason I look forward to the day when I can finally buy a fucking home.
