What I really hate is when adults use it as something to hide behind. "Oh, stop being such a child!" can mean "I can't handle you, so I'm going to patronize you in order to make myself feel competent again."

My family are classic for doing this.

As to friends, there's a level at which
things might just NOT work. So, younger
children usually don't have the maturity to
handle certain games, as an example, in a manner
which would be enjoyable to me.

Then again, I have a tendency to be silly,
which would probably turn a lot of more
mature people off (even if they were younger).
Really, the same issue.

All depends a lot on circumstances though.
Things that I'm interested in, I can pursue with
a great deal of seriousness. Others, I just can't
be bothered with.

On top of that, there's the desire to hide from
shit that I don't want to face - much of which is
just normal everyday stuff to most people.

Exactly. That do dicky do video is the kind
of shit I could get away with, around my
friends. Sure, sometimes they'd give me
a WTF, but sometimes, they'd be right there
with me, in that level of silliness.

But, still turn around and discuss things at
a level of depth that most people I've seen
just DON'T. Hell, not even things which were
necessarily addictions. All with a lot more willingness
to not be hidebound in our views.

Pretty much why I think most of them were close,
if not on, the spectrum.

Because yeah, I need something
along those lines, but probably
not what is ordinarily meant.
