I didn't fill it in here for a long time.  What difference should it make to anyone whether someone is a man or a woman?

But it does to most people unfortunately 

There are also practical reasons for allowing people to not fill in the gender one on sites that big - I got guys messaging me just ebcause they'd seen "Female" in the thing. Whereas what can you do to take that awaY? The only other option is to put "Male" but then I'd be accused of lying

I know. There was this creepy guy on WP that did that to several women, just because they checked the Female box.

Then he was abusive to them when they asked him to leave them alone.

I got sick of people on there who knew nothing about me, making assumptions about me after reading one post, just because of the sex in the profile. When 90% of the time, their assumptions were completely wrong.
