Oxtail soup and a packet of mini cheddars.

Yeah, yeah.  I know.  But I can't be bothered with things today.

My wife made bean soup.

I asked what it was and she said "it's bean soup".

I said "I don't care what it's been, what is it now?".

She never gets my jokes.

Made this for dinner tonight. So good! And I have tons of roasted root veggies leftover to throw into my salads this week.

Sundays is my day off and HB has been spoiling me with making all of my meals. Breakfast was eggs, toast and bacon. Lunch was a salad. And soon he'll be doing burgers on the bbq and cooking up some fries for dinner

Last night I made "Keralan Coconut Curry" from a meal kit and some chicken thigh meat.

And I made sweet and sour chicken from a jar with some thigh meat.

Both were better than expected - better than one would expect from an average take-away.

My son ate a small bowl of curry. My daughter was already full of chocolate.

Even seeing someone trying to make a kid eat something they don't want to eat triggers flashbacks for me, so my kids have always been pretty much free range when it comes to food. My son eats a lot of cookies and my daughter eats a lot of chocolate. Both of them can go most of the day without eating if they are doing something more interesting.

There have never been "special foods", like candy etc., that are rationed or given as rewards or only allowed if they eat a proper meal first.

As a result I think they have a far more healthy attitude towards food than I and a lot of people I know grew up with. My kids NEVER eat candy, if we buy candy it sits in a jar for a year and gets thrown out unless the neighbours' kids come over and eat it.

Mostly I ask them what they want to eat, give them a few options. They like rice porridge and nasi goreng (Indonesian fried rice) and my wife puts lots of vegetables in those. Anything I give to my son to eat gets shared 50/50 between him and the dog.

I've done free range with my kids too and both of them never finished their Halloween candy growing up. Candy given at Christmas usually doesn't get finished either. There's no desperation to have it because they know they're not restricted. Overall they both have a very balanced way of eating. My daughter especially is quite adventurous in her eating.

Today had the usual bagel and laughing cow cheese for breakfast. Lunch was leftover soup. Dinner will be Korean beef.

My daughter refuses to eat sausages after hearing about the sorts of things that go into them. Apart from that they are pretty adventurous and will eat spicy food.

My daughter was born in Thailand and we all loved it there and would have stayed if we had had the option. I imagine both kids would be really adventurous eaters if we had stayed. Last time we were all in Thailand was about 5 years ago and my daughter still reminisces about the mango and sticky rice.

Mine too, though mainly because that's how it was for me. Husband and I only argued once about food, because he came from a hardcore clean plate club. Told him I'd be angry if forced to eat something I didn't want, so he told me stories of the clean plate club. Asked him how that made him feel; he said, kind of bitter. I smiled and said, look at you, a grown man and still bitter about it. That was the end of that.
