Botswanan beef.
I hope I don't get malaria or anything.
I was a random occurence, I had 25 krones left, went to the store for ground meat, usually ground beef is 30+ krones approaching 40, but ground pork is 16-17 krones.
They were out of ALL pork. Fucking hillbilly backwater shit good for nothing moldy crap every other item out of date turd cashiers fucking around never there gotta wait for half an hour to even pay for the moldy shit you bought store
anyway, in the corner of the freezer I found tiny deep-frozen packs of ground beef at 20 krones, "import", and in tiny print "made in Botswana"
and to my surprise, it DID taste vaguely different from my usual Norwegian ground beef.
I am curious now, if I have actually eaten African buffalo-based cattle. These are, in theory, I've yet to confirm, a different species from the "typical western" cattle, which are based on the European "aurochs" of the stone age, whereas African cattle are of a different origin completely, being water-buffalo. Afaik anyway
I should research this
Research result! Water buffallo are indeed domesticated - but our normal
Bos taurus is, despite other existing domesticated species of cattle, spread around the entire planet, and the dominating type of cattle livestock, and was probably what I ate. The difference in taste reflecting the different landscape, fodder, etc, that affected its life.
Its happy care-free life D:
