But it is a rhetorical device--it's a classic construction, even. The snowflake/avalanche comparison is powerful because it conjures up images, but it doesn't actually add anything to your basic argument. If you want to show that with enough Quarter Pounders the world will face environmental disaster, then fine, but you still need to do the work.

No, I don't *know*. Tell me why enough QPs will result in an environmental disaster.

Yes, I know the avalanche thing is an illustration, of course, but exactly what it illustrates in this case remains unclear.
