I love some passenger jets. Yes, they may be cylindrical and boring and mostly alike, but planes like the old MD-11 or a 747 appeal to me.
As does a 737, actually, for some reason. The Airbus equivalents, OTOH, similar as they are, are infinitely boring.
I loved the old 727. I loved the classic Caravelle. I loved the 707.
I can understand the appeal of the tri-jets because they're a bit unusual and just look cool with the engine in the tail. The Caravelle has some very appealing lines, I like the rounded tail. The 747 is iconic and has some interesting lines too. The rest are just cookie-cutter look-alike designs.
The tri-jets are unusual, yes, but it's not just that. Those planes are cool, simple as that.
I remember loving the 707 as a kid. Seeing one live at the Smithsonian rekindled that love for me. There was something very, very special about that one.
