Who else was raised Roman Catholic and find it all utterly insane?  I now I'm not the only one at least I hope :-[ Also what was the last straw that made you this way.  Even as a child I thought the whole thing was nuts but knew enough to play along to stay of trouble.

I had no religion of my own...but went to catholic school...I felt like a fucking outcast, when my tuition was more..and I had to sit while everyone else got to go confess. WTF? I was made an outcast in 8th grade. <scrolls past many years> the majority of people I meet who are hostile and unaccepting...are christians. years of searching....I am pleased with what
I found to be me. I wish those bitter, hypocritical people, could find something similar for themselves.

i'm not catholic, but most of my family is. they never made me go to church, ccd, or to a private school, though. i guess you could say they were "twice a year xians" or somesuch. i still sometimes go to church with them at xmas and easter even though i don't believe in it, but i have nop roblem with it either.

i've known some people who've become xians and gave up drinking and stuff and are totally better people for it. so i guess whatever floats your boat.  :-\

Me.  Of late I have been looking into Gnostic Christianity.  I am also a humanist, but I believe in God so I do not exactly fit in with Secular Humanists as many of them are atheists.

I was raised Catholic too; my mother was a catechist for many years, and my first catechism classes were at my house.
I have a picture somewhere of a bunch of us first-graders standing around together holding palm branches.

Two of the things I remember learning in Catholic school (1950's - 60's) was

A) When you attend another parish church (e.g. on vacation) you don't put any money in the collection plate.  You only give to your parish church.

B) When you attend another faith's service you sit there, respectfully, and do not participate in the service.  That is what I do when I have to attend mass.
A good monarch is a treasure. A good politician is an oxymoron.

My brain is both uninhibited and uninhabited.

I remember my family went to an Episcopal wedding, and my mother cautioned us not to take Communion there.  :orly:

Did the Episcopalian Priests have STD's or something?  :orly:

As I understand it, the Catholic Church does not consider Protestant communion to be valid because the Protestant churches teach that communion
is only a symbol, not the *actual* body and blood of Christ.  Therefore, as Catholics we could not participate without disrespecting our own religion
(and disrespecting God's will and the  "true"  meaning of communion).
