I just figured it out!!!  The posts my mother makes on her blog sites about how nice it is to be clean, sober, and in proper treatment for her bipolar (though she's less 'into' that and more 'into' her alcoholism now, I think) make her sound like a born-again christian!!!  Exact same delusionally fervent conviction that she's somehow been 'saved' from everything in her past.  Exact same desire to smack her upside the head and tell her to shut the hell up because some of us are living in the real world, too.

I'm actually happy I figured it out, though.  I knew it reminded me of something.

:plus: For the epiphany. 12 step shit has many cult like aspects, instead of viewing the steps as a means to an end doing the steps becomes an end  unto itself. Like giving an OCD shampoo in the shower and watching them lather, rinse, repeat until they run out of shampoo. Phoebe did a funny song about that on an old friends episode.
