Oh, OK. Yes, I know you like numbers, which is the reason why none of us can ever catch you. You're the ultimate postwhore.

/wondering why it feels like i'm being got at by so many people recently...   :(
I'm sorry if you thought I was getting at you about the 'sheep' comment because I wasn't.  The way I viewed it was two adults discussing an issue they happened to disagree on- if people always agreed we would be sheep

BTW- does this cheer you up at all?  ;)

PI, i think i love you.

ta for explaining, though, cos i did feel a bit like that - it ain't you per se - i have an avid, eager and lengthy queue of people all over the place, slavering to tell me off about stuff, most of which i know is either difference of opinion, their "stuff", or just plain not being bothered to actually listen to me.

and i agree about your sheep comment, but i am the exception, of course...  ;)

have you seen The Depp in The Fast Show?  he was fucking crap.  who cares - he looked as shaggabe as ever.

I know how it feels having  people queue up just to give you shit (well I say queue but its usually more like a disorderly rabble), and I get the not listening crap too.

I didn't see The Depp in the fast show- mainly cos I hate that show, although I possibly might have been able to bring myself to watch it if I'd known he would be in it (I suppose I could have always muted it, like some kind of bad porn).

I have an essay to write that's due on Monday, but I'm feeling impulsive. I want to walk into town (over a mile away), and possibly get a haircut. Or go just for the walk. I'm afraid if I go to town I might shop though...what should I do?

What is the essay about?  Walks are good for organizing thoughts sometimes.  Maybe you could think about what you want to say and how you want to say it while you walk?  Just take enough money for the haircut and maybe a small thing for yourself so that way you don't shop too much.

Yeah, I will need to organize my thoughts on this one.

I took a class called Initial Field Experience last semester. In that class, we went over "Portrait of a teacher", which is basically my university's standards for what they think will make a good teacher. Two of the standards are:

-Understand critical thinking and problem solving, and create learning experiences that promote the development of students' critical thinking and problem solving skills and dispositions.

-Understand principles of democracy and plan and carry out instruction that promotes democratic values and communication in the classroom.

I have to pick one of the two standards and write about my experiences in life that are reflective of the standard and what experiences of my life have conflicted with the standard. They also want me to envision myself as a teacher and explain how I would foster a classroom climate that would promote the standard in my discipline. They also want me to write about my personal experiences and what I would do differently.

Sorry, I couldn't really summarize it... :-[

I'm thinking I'll pick the democracy standard, as critical thinking and problem solving sound boring to write about.

possibly true, but the former is more pertinent to your personal experience of learning - you can relate your own experience, is what i mean.  and the democratic thingy is more waffly, whereas you can cite more concrete exampls (which are more easily measurable, as far as "did it work?" is concerned).

also, the former is easier to determine why you'd want to do it - the four types of learner, etc.

this comment might be me-centred, rahter than you-centred, though.  ignore it, if that's the case, and i hope it didn't sound patronising.

Oh wow.  That was like reading a whole new language to me.  I'm impressed that they have you think so much about what is important in teaching, and how to best teach.  My classes seem so much easier in comparision - it's either plain logic or mathematics for the most part.

Good luck on the essay.  It seems really complicated!
