I wonder if the opal frost window film will change the colour of the light getting through.  The white etched looks nicer, but I want something that'll completely obscure the window, and the white etched looks like it's too easy to see through.

I'm a fuckking punk for computer equipmwent deals.

I did it again. Something came up at a killer price and I bit.

:hide:

I looked, but I could not find the "DEAL."

It was this for fifty six bucks. I just bought two three hundred gig drives a month ago, really cheap, so I DON"T (don't) neeed to buy this, but it was too good of a deal to passs up.

I haven't opened it. I can return it, until the end of january, if I deceide to..

..... or after february, I can ebay it, legallly,,, if it has value still.

Yeah.
This store is going to fucking keep me drooling.

I watched a "Last Week's Model" or what ever the FUCK (!) seventy two inch Pioneer plasma, teneighty res, go out the door for twelve hundred bucks, yesterday. I boxed it safely, so it would travel well and then loaded it up. It was a nine thousand dollar television, which I have watched Tunstall dance around on.

:penis:

I try to be serious, but I see them just dumping the old stuff and it is STILL good! I can't think like this. I must keep my eyes forward!

It's OK, but I will never cease to be amazed. Who knows, I might even pick up another deal or two along the way, when the time is wright.

holy crap. i think i'd have succumbed too.

I opened it, powered it up and plugged it in. It broke my computer.

:grrr:

It doesn't recognise it, except that it gave me a BSD when I plugged in the USB cable, then a forced re-start. Fucking WinXP!

The drive is formatted in FAT32 FFS! My system got mad about it, I guess.

I don't know why, yet.

I decided to postwhore a bit before I fuck up my net 'puter again.

I have read that I can only have two hard drives (which I already  have), because of some bullshit in Windows, without using some form of RAID. Would that be a problem with a USB external (temporary) drive?
I could easily open it up and unplug the music drive to test this, but if someone already knows it will save me the trouble if I am being stupid.

That makes NO sense. Why should you need
a redundancy system, in order to have more
drives? If so, there has to be a way of tricking
windows into thinking that you do.

Can't see why. Then again, I don't get why you'd
need the RAID system. It just doesn't make sense.

I don't see why it would be a problem - Win XP recognises my old external CD writer as a USB mass storage device, I would expect an external HDD to be detected the same way. fuck knows why they formatted it as FAT32 though.  ::)

It probably has to do with the inadequacy in the IDE system, which my old computer has and the fact that they only put two IDE channels on a mobo.

RAID was one way of getting around this and using more than four total devices. Before huge drives, RAID 0 was often used to increase capacity for digital imaging storage. Kind of stupid, when some of the Sun systems were already available. I did that on my old Win 95 box. Raid was the only way I had to have eight (12 gig! hahaha) drives at hand.
I have always had more music files than I knew what to do with.
It was stupid, but it worked. This doesn't, yet.

Really odd to use FAT32*, considering that it is "approved" for use in Vista.

I tried it again a bit ago and the same thing happened. nothing at first, them BSD, re-start.

Not cool.

I'll figure it out though. There is surely something on the WD brand website to help.

*I guess I'm wrong. All these things seem to use FAT32.

I just don't know why. Isn't it even worse than NTFS at fragmenting files?

Drama over.

I reset the USB section back to default settings in the BIOS and it recognized the drive on the next start-up. I don't remember changing them to begin with, but everything else still works, too.

So, I'm happy.

 :zoinks:

*my working theory, which I plan to act on in the near future, is that I am simply running out of power supply and suffering a voltage drop. I unplugged the little remote control sensor and a printer, which I no longer use, reset the USB to default and no more trouble. Since I had all this stuff hooked up in the past I have added a power hungry sound card and video card.
