Did you get that I was joking?

I wouldn't normally bother with this, but I've just seen this one too many times from you.

The most annoying person I ever met was this guy I worked with at a summer job.  He was always insulting any and every one.  When you called him on it, he'd always say he was 'just joking'.  No one was ever laughing though.

Did anyone ever tell you that if you have to say something was a joke, it usually means it wasn't funny?  If you have to say something was a joke very often, it usually means you're not funny.

it's one of the intergeek laws, i think. never point out anyone's spelling errors cos you won't be able to post without one in yours.

Hmm. I just received a phonecall from one of the volunteer managers at the hospice. He wanted to inquire about my absence from there. I was frank with him and said that I'm looking for paid work, by whatever means necessary. It's nice to know that some people from there do miss me from there.

The thing is, though, if they weren't paid to do their work there, wouldn't they feel the same way as I do right now? Hmm.

I also don't understand the cynicism surrounding volunteer work. To the likes of my father and my DEA, it's beneath paid work because of the lack of wage and sympathetic nature.

I got some attitude like that when I did some volunteering at my kids' school. There were several times I wanted to do or say something defensive, but I would have jeopardised my position.

I wouldn't call it an ego trip, but working with the kids was certainly good for my spirit, so I did NOT want it to stop. I got a weekly boost from the Occupational Therapist I was working with and also from the kids, themselves. In reality, any warm body with half a brain could have done what I was doing, but it still annoyed me to be looked down upon by a few who weren't even involved in the therapy sessions.
