I feel that the main problem, the main issue with stem cell research and genetic research is that it puts enormous amounts of power into the hands of a relatively few people. Not that I am opposed to that, but that seems like the fundamental issue. I don't think anybody would put it that way since most of the people interested in it are either interested in the danger of creating something that we could lose control of, or the potential benefits of the fruits of its research, but in either case the reason for its pros and cons is that it puts a lot of control into the hands of a small number of people. A small number of people allows greater control and specific manipulation but it also creates the risk of that control being abused or misused(think like a dicatorship).
And what I am wondering right now is, will humanity ever be wise enough to safely make decisions like that, and I mean ever - as the human nature exists as we know it?
But what I am actually wondering, the point I am trying to make by answering that question, is has humanity ever been wise enough to safely make the decisions it has made or does routinely make, and can we really expect to wait around for humanity to mature like that considering the likelihood of it, or our policy of never doing that.
