As far as how "for real" it is, you can judge for yourself, by following the reference links. Loooks pretty solid to me.
Lots of births. Yeah well, science has been curing diseases, increasing viability of the newborn, and not addressing the issue of the size of our little rock. For generations, the lifespan has increased and now we have nanny governments taking all the danger out of our daily lives. George Carlin was a geniius when he said that Danger should conserved, because we are runnning out of it.
I would support the few scientists who are calling for a ninety percent drop in population of humankind and the resulting extinctions from what ever it is that helped to balance out man's shortsightedness. I prefer to let nature set the bar, though, unless a bunch of people killing each other is also natures way, rather than leave it up to some group of "chosen"people. I see little future in those statistics on that page.
That's why it is well supported, it makes us all think. (It makes me feel dirty, inside.)
