Watched Oprah's program about autism, yesterday, featuring a documentary film produced by Autism Speaks. The Autism Speaks people are very active in our town and were consulted during my son's latest formal observation, without my awareness. upon finding out, I invited them to the meeting and I listened to their suggestions, but they are going to have be quite a bit more sophisticated, than what they showed me in that meeting, if they want to reach my son and my daughter.

I know the impact that Oprah has on any issue and to see them show only one side of this issue was disturbing. Some of the comments of the parents and siblings were disgusting. One eleven year old kid said, "I just wish I had a real brother."  The problem is all the people who now think they know all about autism, because they "saw it on Oprah".
