There is a very exact science behind the mumbo-jumbo and yet the ramifications are more about philosophy, to many physicists, than science per se; but yes, they also do have things in common with Eastern mysticism.
That course had everything, from some lovely math to existential philosophy. And yes, mysticism, too. Quantum physics rocks.
