I think it'd been great if Texas would've remained an independent republic, including the areas that were ceded from Texas to the Union in 1850. Though it most probably would've been annexed to the US by force. The violet area on this map is the territory of "Big Texas", just after the Mexican war.

The citizens of Texas voted for U. S. annexation and statehood, although they retain the right to divide into four additional states.

True and one other item that seems to get lost to the revisionist's efforts is the fact that, when Stephen F. Austin first went to Tejas (it was still Mexico), he had already been coached by Houston and other politicians on how to prepare the territory for statehood. Texas Statehood was his main goal, not real estate wealth.

Speaking of old maps, here is a map of Sweden from 1809, the year Finland was lost to Russia. It was after that Swedes became wimps for real:'(

Wow, that's huge.  Was all of the colored-in area part of Sweden then?

Yep, we had even more before that. Sweden was at its greatest in 1658.

Yep. As you can see, all of Finland and Estonia and parts of Livonia, Russia and Germany were once Swedish.

I want to know if the greater hate I am detecting is just because I am listening more, or if there is actually more hate caused by things my country is doing that I might want to pay attention to and think about whether I am okay with it.
And as always, these are simply my worthless opinions.
Reverence is fine, Sanctity is silly.
We're all fucked, it helps to remember that.

I see the city of Bremen was part of Sweden. I've been there, I like that city.  8)

Yep, Bremen and its small neighbourtown Verden, Wismar, and all of western Pomerania became Swedish in the peace treaty of Westphalia 1648 after the 30th Year War. In those days, no-one thought of Swedes as cowards, but as the horror of Europe.  8)

Do you know that the Swedish army as one of very few actually captured Moscow in 1611? It had little political importance, though, since they had do withdraw after a short while.
