The car repair

What needs to be repaired?

That's the scary part.  I won't know until tomorrow, but the smell of burning rubber and a lit Check Engine light doesn't sound like the price of a Starbucks venti cappucino to me.

It could just be a belt or something else small. Did the car run long enough for you to get it to the shop? If so, it could be a part that is easy to replace.

I certainly hope it's fast and cheap.  Yeah, I took it in as soon as I could arrange for my friend to pick me up.  I guess I drove it for about 5 miles after the light went on.  I did a quick google on check enging light and burning rubber smell.  The first link was for a transmission repair job.  I didn't have the heart to look at any other threads.  There's nothing I can do.  We need a car.

My guess is you need to replace a belt, maybe the alternator belt.

Transmissions usually slip, which you would feel, and I think they wouldn't generate a check engine light.

Fortunately, my doc saw me the next day.  I was not expecting for him to feel my joints while I was naked, but he eliminated in one office visit the possibility that I will recover on my own.

Even after I began questioning him, assuring him that I am "still healthy"  and shit, he showed me how my pain was being created by producing it at will, with me lying flat on my back, in a moment just by pushing my hip joint into the areas where my ligament support has begun to fail.

This is a scary place for me to find myself.  Every beating I have ever suffered has eventually healed and I became stronger for it. Every old injury has become tolerable in ways that have taught me a kind of humility in the occupation of my own corporal body. Everything I have ever suffered, except for my wisdom teeth growing back three time has been something that I could handle on my own.

This is "new ground"  for me to tread. I am not going to be able to control this. It scares the fuck out of me!

If the doctor could generate the hip pain while you were lying on the table then I hope he has a good idea how to make it go away as well.

Your recovery will probably take a while, but that time will pass and you probably will wind up in less pain than you have been in for years.

I don't regret having my ankle surgery a year ago to fix my torn ligament and the hole in my bone.

I'd agree with Callaway that the transmission isn't that likely. But whatever it is, I hope it's inexpensive and quick to fix.

A worn belt wouldn't trigger the check engine light either.

Well so far, it's a faulty O2 sensor, about $250.  But there's oil all over the engine, which was the burning smell.  They're still looking for the source of that.

I hope it's fixable. Wish I could play   :santa:   and get you a new car.

A worn belt wouldn't trigger the check engine light either.

It might if it was slipping very badly or if it was broken, though.

This site is a rat race. Every time I read a new post and click on the "Show Unread Posts" button, someone else has posted in another thread. The number of unread posts never decreases.   :fight:

Also, we need a hamster wheel smiley for situations like this.
