LOL, "What makes you happy?" would get a "does not compute!" from me, unless it was one of a select few people in particular circumstances. But that kind of question doesn't get asked a lot in casual conversation, in my experience.
Nope it doesnt get asked in that, which is why I dont have an good answer for it yet. But college welfare asked it to which I gave a very vague response... :S

Why did they want to know?  If you said that a yacht would make you happy, would they give you one?
They are concerned about my welfare (I havent been well for the most of the year etc). I feel guilty if I answer skydiving, so I basically had to say that I am not sure. Which is probably true.

I hate being asked "What do you want?" and variations on it as an open ended question. Like "What do you want to do today?" or "What do you want to eat?"

It's much easier to answer something like "Would you rather have spaghetti or curry?" or "Do you want to go to the store today?"

Agreed, give me a specific choice, not a question that I will probably guess wrong because the person asking me is thinking something differently.  If I'm going to step off the precipice at least let me know what choices of bottom I'm aiming for!
Lol, I motherfucking hate being asked vague questions, or having vague instructions, for that matter.  Is it a dysfunction or an overfunction, though, that I have trouble saying something so general it's not really meaningful?  I have to wonder if people who like to give succinct but at least partially inaccurate answers are able to do so more through apathy or stupididty than talent at simplification.

If asked, look the questioner right in the eye, and say, with a totally striaght face, "Setting kittens on fire."  They won't ask again.
I would have gone for that response if I was after pissing them off. Though I kind of want to do the opposite here.

The top 3 normally get a round of witty sardonism when I can be bothered to try answering them. Though the worst questions tend to involve emotions. "So, what makes you happy". I havent got a quick answer that avoids questions yet for that one...
"Answering questions at an interview!  :zoinks: " And you have to have the  :zoinks: expression.

PMS Elle's answer, I would love to see the reaction to that.  :evillaugh:

Little of both?

 :LMAO:
I wish my wits worked that fast IRL! I so have to try that. It would even almost be true.

Yes, my wits don't always work at lightning speed.  But, then PMS Elle does have open mike Comedic experience.  That would certainly sharpen ones repartee.   ;)
Well not to disspell the illusion, but I took a good two minutes trying to think of the perfect reply, and I failed repeatedly at saying it aloud without cracking up.  (Yes, I was sitting in front of my computer, talking to myself.  I wanted to hear if it sounded as awesome said aloud as in my head.)
it is well known that PMS Elle is evil.

George:I'd say I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not. I excel at not giving a shit. Experience has taught me that interest begets expectation, and expectation beget disappointment, so the key to avoiding disappointment is to avoid interest. A equals B equals C Equals A, or whatever. I also don't have a lot of interest in being a good person or a bad person. From what I can tell, either way, you're screwed. Bad people are punished by society's laws, and good people are punished by Murphy's Law

Too tired to catch up today.

Jimi Hendrix: When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.

Ghandi: Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

The end result of life's daily pain and suffering, trials and failures, tears and laughter, readings and listenings is an accumulation of wisdom in its purest form.

My son sometimes gets very frustrated and stressed when we ask him something. Clearly he knows the answer but the idea of having to respond overwhelms him.

I get that way too :-[  Sometimes I just can't talk

Yeah, me too, which is why I know what my kid's going through. I've found that it's nearly impossible to explain to the rest of the family, unfortunately.

Yes, those get me every time. :(

But if they add a choice when I'm about to reply, I stop. I hate it when that happens.

Is he too young to have mastered the art of waffle yet?

He doesn't know how to, at all, because he just stops. He overloads.

What makes you happy, Odeon?

I have a hangup about meds, it didn't adress the underlying problem, and the specialists were kind of stupid.  I understand now, all the shit I  been through, all the trouble I caused for myself, it was to distract me from my lack of confidence in myself that my mom took away.  I was getting it back, and getting into extreme trouble was part of that.  It was leaking out of my preconscious I guess, because it was very bothersome. I need something tough like skin cancer, because I am strong, to not feel things about myself.  Overcoming something tough helps to imprint on my mind what I knew along time ago, don't listen to my mom all the time, she has problems.  That is for refrence next time, so if there is anyone out there who still feels the need to bother me about diagnosises and or meds, you know next time, Randy Freud took care of it for you.  I am very receptive during certain times, to things that appear on preconscious level, it freuently happens when I imagine I am full of energy that makes me stronger.

Pushing myself is what I need to continue doing, otherwise, I continue to feel like shit, and not colllege.  I think I know now what I am capable of, everything
