Meh. I guess I took an instant dislike to it, an impression which wasn't helped by my parents buying a new computer the other week with Vista on it. Piece of crap had several tantrums while setting it up, and the BSOD made several appearances. Pain in the arse.

apple the company has done a lot of stupid shit in the past ten years, :agreed: i could rant for days...

i was talking about the machines. my g4/g5s run securely and reliably. i dont think i could handle it any other way.  :)

to each his own i guess...

See that's the thing, my XP masheen is stable as. The only BSODs I've had was from stupid Comodo Firewall, so I pissed that the fuck off and no problems at all. And this masheen is on 24/7, has been for the last 2 years.

So sorry to dissapoint, I really don't need your pity  :green:

That's impressive. While I think that a firewall should never be able to bring down any operating system--it shouldn't be allowed to mess with anything anywhere near the kernel--two years is impressive for any Windows OS.

I've been able to bring down XP with a screensaver. SETI@Home, if you must know. :zoinks:

From what limited information that was going around, aparently it was a conflict with avast! Anti-vir, I think they were both trying to scan a file at the exact same time and then windows shit got all retarded like and BSODed.

The unfortunate thing was, was that I made some recient hardware changes and I thought something was either incompatable or there was some overheating involved (hot aussie summers). So now my masheen is running very nicely with all this addition flashy cooling gear added on  :green:

Plus comodo asked too many damn questions anyway, was starting to bug the shit out of me. I went back to good old Sygate Personal Firewall.

I get that stupid screen all the time. I even wrote it all out on a bit of paper. Could it be the reason my computer keeps shutting down and restarting on its own? I've cleaned the fans, I've run  virus and spyware programs.

BSODs happen for a numerious reasons most of the time it's related to a hardware or a software conflict? Did they start happening after installing any new software or hardware. Also you might want to check the temperature of your CPU, the computer will often shut it self down as a protective measure once the CPU reaches a certain temperature, you can often check it in the CMOS settings, if you see the temp slowly rising even though the processor is not doing anything, you;ve got  a problem. although you said you replaced the fan, did you replace the CPU fan? If so you might want to try replacing your CPU.

also next time your computer does that, check the event viewer in your administrative to see if any errors come out, try updating all your hardware drivers, and see if it's happening when running a specific peice of software.

Sygate is by far the best software-based firewall I've ever used, for Windows.

Oh its a dream. Lightweight and has all the right features and function you could ever want without being bothered all the damn time about this or that. I only have to click on something to do with it when I install something new or update a program, and thats it.
