New term for wannabe Aspies

Sometimes I question my ADD diagnoses because it was over diagnosed then. I was hyper, I fidgeted, I had difficulty concentrating, I had tons of homework every night more than other kids, I never got my work done in school while other kids get free time because they got their work finished. I rarely finished my school work in school. Mom had to place me in a room that was quiet and keep me away from the noise like the TV and my brothers playing. Lot of things distracted me then and I had difficulty time concentrating and focusing.

Aspies can be hyper too and maybe me fidgeting was me stimming and maybe me getting distracted was due to sensory issues. They may end up with tons of homework due to their learning style or because they want to do other things so they have troubles focusing on their school work.

Was this ADD or AS? You decide.

AS and ADD symptoms do look alike.

I don't know enough about the biology of each to be totally sure of this, but I'd imagine in cases like that the "ADHD" would largely be a byproduct of the AS.  Are you on stimulant meds/were you ever, Kit?  if so, what did they do for you?

Nobody ever suspected I had ADHD (a miracle, considering how much I was in 'the system' as a kid), but I think one of the things that made the idea of AS stick out was the sensory issues I get when I'm anxious (which, when I was a kid, was pretty damn much constantly).  I'm a great deal more evened out now, but I still do get patches of anxiety as well panic attacks/meltdowns/whatever you want to call them, and during those in particular I become super-sensitive to noise and tactile stimuli.  If that type of sensitivity was a constant for me I can imagine I'd find concentration far more difficult than I normally do.

(Then again, of late I've been so stressed that I have virtually no working memory an very little ability to concentrate- I basically have artificial ADD at the moment.  People who know me well have noticed it, but also know why.  I'm assuming it will go away when I'm under better conditions, and not assuming "OMFG I HAVE LATE-ONSET PRIMARILY INATTENTIVE ADHD PLEASE GIVE ME ADDERALL ASAP!")

I was on pills for it for two years and they messed me up. They also gave me a high metabolism so I was able to eat whatever I wanted and not get fat but when I was finally taken off them, I got all these stretch marks because I craved sugar and kept on eating unhealthy and ate a lot of food. But everyone in my family gained some weight because we were all going through a hard time because of me. I haven't been on pills for ADD since. I was also on other shit like vitamin pills. But I was more behaved when I was on those pills.

There's the ones with autism diagnosis, LFA, HFA, PDDnos, NVLD, Retts, CDD, and so on which are impossible to specify in profile settings unlike undiagnosed. So, yes, it could be true.

Prolly not 'true' ADHD if stimulant meds did more harm than good.  To my understanding, the use of stimulant meds can not only act as treatment, but can actually be a diagnostic tool in and of itself.

I'm one of those people.

I wuld assume a fair amount of folks on WP do indeed have AS or an ASD, though.  I have no idea the percentage, though- lot of factors that could tip the scales either way and I haven't been onn there in ages.

I think the first step of that solution would be to overturn the American Psychiatirc Association, preferably in a hostile takeover. 

Then, come up with a mythical retelling of the fable of the APA, the recognition of AS by the enlightened psychiatric proohets, beytrals and battes with the heretic shrinks, finishing with the ultimate triumph of the true Chosen Aspie People.  This retelling should be written in a book and mass produced as way to intruce people into the Unity of Aspergians, which will definitely NOT be a cult but, rather, a path to enlightenment. 

All will be welcome on this path, but the true Chosen Aspie People will have a special place on this path, and the rest shall pay tribute in order to join them on the Path.  The first step on the Path shall be to seek diagnostic testing, which can be purchased from your local Lord High Functioning Aspergian, and, if initially testing is not successful or satisfactory, possibly re-testing.  Medication shall be dispersed to those who require it in order to progress along the Path, which, again, shall be distrubuted by Lord High Aspergians, for a fee.

And so on, and so forth, until Tom Cruise is jumping up an down on Oprah's couch about it.

I do get so irked when persons who really are on the spectrum get told by mean people that they are not on the spectrum even by mean persons who are on the spectrum (and yes unfortunately there are mean people on the spectrum who have hassled nice people on the spectrum when all the nice people wanted was to get some help and understanding).

A good example I have of this is that well in an autism chatroom years ago a really nice person from Australia who is on the autism spectrum, has 2 kids on the spectrum and her husband was at one time diagnosed I guess or something.

Anyways this one mean lady from Australia who is in the spectrum and apparently has a couple of kids on the spectrum too, decides to tear apart my nice friend and accuse her of not being autistic, then my friend goes into the room Asperger and another mean person on the spectrum who lives in my country USA is chewing my nice friend out for entering the Asperger room telling her that it is only for people on the spectrum and she calls my friend an NT although my friend later got a full certified autism diagnoses from an accredited psychologist (she already knew she was Autistic and was in the process of getting tested to be able to prove it).

Luckily the mean lady from Australia was banned from the autism room for using coarse language when she knew full well the room rules said it is a family room no swearing allowed, if anyone on the spectrum wants to swear they were free to do it in Asperger or other autism related chatrooms that allowed swearing and all that.

But yeah I'm like seriously how are Autistic people like myself gonna be able to prove that we can make a difference and be useful in society if people on the spectrum are attacking each other and telling others who are proven to be on the spectrum that oh they are not on the spectrum and all that.

I haven't had my diagnosis doubted by anyone on the internet but I have been called a "fake autistic" in real life by someone who expected me to be rocking away in the corner and unable to communicate. I sad I was HFA not LFA but they still didn't get it.

I had mine doubted IRL a few times. But I'll hardly lose sleep over it, I don't see my diagnosis as some advertisement sign anyway.

I;ve been told I don't seem autistic IRL, but never really had it doubted out right

I don't tell people much though and don't really ttalk to people

Remember three years ago when I was doubting my AS because I wasn't like the other aspies and couldn't relate? I still feel that way sometimes but I don't let myself go all crazy over it, same as with ADD. Other people don't go crazy over their labels they aren't sure about.
