The summer can be hell here.  It is 61F/16C here right now, with very little humidity.   The insecsts are insane in some areas during the summer lol.   It isn't that bad in St. Augustine imo.   It has only snowed here twice in my life (pathetic slush compared to what I have seen up north).   You get hard freezes every now and then and have to cover the plants.   You have an ocean that you can use year round, not just in the summer.   The Atlantic has much warmer water than the Pacific, and the waves are smaller (well that is bad for surfers).  The crazy surfers here go out during hurricanes or when they are offshore and that is when the waves are 12ft plus.  The dock where my parents have their condo was destroyed by waves from the last offshore hurricane.  The intracoastal waterway is nice and with that and the ocean it is fun for boaters and small water craft.

It's a nice place to visit, but living there is expensive real estate wise.  That is if you want a nice place. 

If land is expensive in the same way gas is over there, it'd still be dirt cheap by UK standards.

Lands a tricky thing there is so much of it but everybody seems to want it in the same areas driving up the price.  Where I live the average for an empty .25 acre lot is around $130,000
right on the water in my town they start at over $350,000.  Down closer to NYC they pay $750,000 for a house to tare down an build a 2-3 million dollar house. My brother paid cash for his house in a not so popular area so you mileage varies greatly

My dad lives in a detached house. He lied to the government about how much he was earning or something so that he didn't have to pay my Child Benefit. He has plenty of money though.

Fairfield County was $520,000 and the median condo price was $292,000.

Most houses are detached condos are usually attached. This varies greatly though

Greenwich had the most expensive median price for single-family homes at $1.6 million. New Canaan was second at $1.5 million. Darien was third with $1.19 million and Westport was fourth at $1.15 million.

These are the richer areas my town the average is $288,000 a lot more on the water.
There are many areas like the Catskills which are about 100 miles North of NYC where my brother lives where the prices are substantially lower
