The original scarf is fab, actually. Don't you think so? It's outrageous (and outrageously long) but I like the colours.

excellent.  it probably won't be that long, cos i have a boredom threshold.  :D

does mean i'll be able to knit and watch dvds, though.  ;)  :-*

Do you know a decent site where I can learn a bit more about computer network systems?

I am trying to get more hours at work and to expand the departments I can work in, I've taken the geek squad test (two hundred seventy nine questions). I almost passed. I missed ten answers, but anything over seven bad answers is TEH fail.

Eight of my wrong answers involved networking.  I need to study some stuff.

Where do you suggest I browse for more smarts?

(I know I should go to school, but I have never been able to do that.)

Well, a bit hard to say since I don't know how much you know now and how much you actually want to know. There's lots to read on the intergeek.

A good place to start, actually, is Wikipedia for a quick overview. There are articles on various topics related to all things networking, and links to external resources.

A Linux-specific network admin guide is freely available on the net. Yes, it's about Linux but the introductory chapters are about networking as such and the principles are the same, regardless of the OS you choose to run.

Linux Networking-concepts HOWTO also gives a reasonably good overview. Yes, it's from the freely available Linux documentation project, but that's why I like Linux, among other things: the information is freely available, and, for the most part, very accurate. You can't find many freely available MS-specific networking documents out there, as far as I know.

But also try About.com.  Lots of good stuff there, it seems, even though I tend to go for the Linux Network Admin Guide instead.

Thanks.

I actually have not tried wiki in a long time and their section is loaded with links and cross references, now, that weren't there a couple of years ago. Some links will prove helpful. Those Linux links will help me with going past the basics. I often end up on forums with conflicting information when I search for Linux info or six million pages of hits to narrow down. Very frustrating Those will certainly help my hobby-level interest.

What we are mostly involved in at work is LAN related, media PC and home office networks, often wireless, and the like, but I never even thought to look at about.com. That site is also well loaded with references I can follow and it is geared to the fast paced lifestyle that our customers are interested in obtaining. Those customers bring money and buttloads of questions that they really don't want the answers to. They just want to walk out with cool stuff that all works together. Thus, the need exists to expand the in-house, media geek department at work.

Those areas of about.com will definitely help in the specific type of low-level knowledge I need to get a foot in the door.

Again, thanks. That's why I asked you. I knew you could guide my searching.

I am amazed at how well this new shit works. I bought a fifteen dollar router and a hundred dollar :"music bridge"  and it PnP'ed in my system. I have not installed anything, but it works.

I can now throw away the hundred fifty feet of CAT cable that I used to drag out to feed the outdoor system.

(I probably need a better router, though, at some point)

Have you seen the Logitech music server toy?
