Unfortunately, the field of professional dog breeding is rife with people who have little interest in biological realities or the welfare of their dogs, and who cling to outdated ideas about eugenics and racial purity.  The RSPCA recently withdrew it's support for Crufts after a BBC documentary exposed unsound and cruel breeding practices which were compromising the health and quality of life of pedigree dogs:  http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article4761471.ece

Breeders who have a good grasp of genetics and care for the health of their dogs are faced with a system which penalises good breeding practices and ignores modern science in favour of pseudo-scientific dogma.

The idea that bitches are tainted by mating with off-breed males is known as telegony, and was discredited back in the 1890's.  Some people have been slow to catch on, however.  Here's an interesting side by side comparison; the first article advises dog breeders to ignore telegony, while the second article cautions of disaster befalling those who disregard it.  Read them both, and form your own conclusions.

Very true, Peter.

Dog breeders here are certainly slow to catch on. Maybe not the individuals I know, but within the industry, ridiculous notions still prevail.

I bought 4 outside door handles for the car (3 broke and I didn't relish climbing in through the trunk if/when the last one broke), 2 light bulbs for the back of the car, had the window mechanism cleaned for the drivers window (now I don't have to fear it will break in the down position in the rain) and a brake tag = $657, $657 = relief from worry.

Is the corresponding feline science called catma?

No, science is simply science, but catmatic people tend to excel at it.
