real football is called "football"
Actually football used to be a term that incorporated both soccer and rugby. Rugby was thought to be a lower class form as it is more violent, and soccer is more finesse. It was supposedly invented by the Chinese, and the English codified the rules much later.
I played futbol/soccer up until I was 15 competitively, it is fun to play... but really boring to watch on TV. I prefer some violence with my sports: hockey, american football, mixed martial arts, etc. As a midfielder I remember having to cover 80% of the field, which was a lot of running at times. While I could make soccer teams and do well, I was never big and fast enough to play American football on a school team (I played all sorts of sports recreationally though). I am pretty damn strong, but football players here have a lot of crazy strength training exercises that they have to go through. It is a lot more than just aerobics, where you have to build endurance. There is plenty of speed in the NFL, and Bob Hayes started the trend of Olympic sprinters playing in the league. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Hayes
