There was a French author, maybe Alexandre Dumas the Younger, who was so addicted to coffee that he drank it in big soup bowls towards the end of his life  :viking:
Irving Wallace mentioned that in The Book of Lists.

I usually remember things very exactly, but I can't remember which French author it was. It was one of those late 19th Century guys, though.

It was Dumas in Wallace's book.

You must kill him! Julius Caesar would have done that! Not that he would have tolerated a boss at all, but you know what I mean!  :arrr: :arrr: :arrr: :arrr: :arrr: :arrr:

Yes, I do know what you mean. I'd love to. I'd make the most out of it. I'd be at my most creative, I'd relish every second. Watch an episode of Dexter and you'll know what I mean. Problem is, it seems to be against the law in some obscure way. Apparently idiots are protected by the law, somehow.

Carajo most probably comes from an unattested Latin word *c(h)araculum, which in turn would be a diminutive of Greek charax, menaning "stick".

I am getting grayer, but my hair is so fine-textured that it's hard to tell.  8)

I wonder if a big soup bowl in the late 19th century was any bigger than the 20 or 30 ounce coffees that Starbucks sells today.

No, it wasn't.  I was around then.

I did that with tea, strong black tea, with milk and sugar, around my twenties. Had three of those bowls for breakfast every morning. And, the bowl wasn't a polite one, it was HUGE.
