Polish dills are pickled for 2+ months whereas kosher dills are ready in a few weeks. Koshers are brined with kosher salt and water but polish pickles have vinegar and lots of garlic.

Ah, thanks. Think Holland knows the Polish variant too. Well, sorta. Gherkins put in a jar with, I think, a vinegar/water mixture and added mustard seeds, dill and other herbs. They're very nice indeed.

Um, the variant with the salt brined ones will probably never be a success here, I think.

Yes, the Holland variety sounds very similiar. I don't know why the kosher ones are more popular here. I haven't seen a jar of polish pickles in stores until very recently. So I buy 3 huge jars at a time because they store well.

There a a couple houses in my town built in the 1600's  while not as old as things in Europe very old for the US

Bergen op Zoom, um, the stupid/arrogant city I reside in, has the oldest hotel of Holland. Supposed to be older than 1397 (at least that's what been said here)

The oldest in the place I live are human beings...........

Trees and houses all are younger.
And some policy about preserve the landscape seems to prevent us having trees older than I am.  :thumbdn:

That's what I do miss here, history in landscape, housing and trees.

Near where I grew up there were still a couple old growth trees from before the area was settled that where over 400 years old.  They were tucked away in a ravine in the north of the town next to mine owned by the Nature Conservancy
