The land border between Sweden and Finland follows three rivers in the northeast. Just a small part of the border is a land border, namley on the tiny island Märket in the Baltic. In 1885 the Russians (whom Finland belonged to from 1809 to 1918) built a lighthouse on the Swedish side of the island due to the lack of correct maps. Because of that the border was redrawn in 1985 and got the following peculiar shape:
