I have thought about what it would be like if I was 20 again. GA would be only 14!

I get confused about why an important law like the age of consent varies from state to state in America.

It's not as bad when people are older though.

It's just dirty if one person is younger than 18.

it depends entirely on the age of the younger person, and their maturity.  if i were to be with someone  20 years younger than me, it wouldn't necessarily be a problem from an ethical point of view, cos they'd be able to make educate choices about the relationship, having had more life experience (theoretically).

however, even a 5 year age gap if the oldest person was 20 would be dodgy, in my book, cos there's such a world of difference between a 15 year old and a 20 year old.  i've had significantly younger partners for years now (for various reasons) - the last was (still is, for all i know ) 6 or 7 years younger than me (i forget which).  that's fine when he's mid thirties, not so with an 18 and an 11 year old.

I agree.  I think the age of consent should be 18 for both males and females in every state in the US, unless the couple is close together in age.

I don't have any problem at all with age differences, unless one of the partners is a minor.

My husband is younger than I am and I was once in a relationship with someone who was eighteen years older than I was.  I was an adult when I entered the relationship, though.

The difference being that conditions back then were a bit more rough. and it was harder for an older woman to bear several children than a younger one.

The practice continued long after the practical necessity though....

My last BF was 18 years older than me. He was 17 when I was born. I will be 17 years younger than him again when my birthday comes, then 18 years again when his comes.

and we met when she was 17. I've
met others at that age, and certainly
think that that's an acceptable one,
at least for SOME. On the other side,
I doubt that I was ready for a relationship
of any seriousness, before when it happened
to me, around 20. Some people mature
emotionally much quicker than others.

I just don't see that a simple age can
clearly express this. Yeah, it's pretty clear
to me that there is a line where it is NEVER
acceptable. But it's not at 18.

As to ages being similar, I've seen a lot of
harm done to one another, in just such relationships.
Same with age being different. Age does not make
a predator. Using people makes a predator.

I recently dated a 20 year old girl which would make for a 8 year difference.    The largest before that was a 2 year difference (when I was 20 I hooked up with a 22 year old woman).   Both actual girlfriends were around a year younger than me.

I tend to date either people older by 5 years or people younger by that....older when I was younger..and younger, now that I am older.
