Not to sound like a condescending asshole or anything, but I strongly suggest that you don't spend the cash on stupid shit, because this may be the last time you get this much cash at once.

you're allowed to have in the bank. I know that
I had to go on a cash only economy when I was
on welfare, in order to avoid getting audited off.

That is a good point.  I have a friend whose young son is on SSI, so he got a little money every month plus Medicaid to pay for his many doctors and therapists and extensive medication for his epilepsy.  Then her husband died.  Her husband had a $50000 life insurance policy, so her son was kicked off SSI and Medicaid until she spent the money down and she had to account to them how every dollar was spent.

if i died, would my life insurance policy supercede my social security?
or would my wife be allowed to collect both?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think she gets both.

The SSI and Medicaid my friend's son got was based on family income and they could not have too many assets or he lost his eligibility.

I think survivor's benefits are different.

well i have already chosen my doctor and i am well pleased. also the state is picking up the tab for whatever medicaid doesnt cover.
