Last time I was at a game, photographing for promo work, I caught a foul ball in the stomach. It hit me so hard, it left little compression cuts from the stitches in the ball, right through my T-shirt. I had to sit down for a couple of pitches.

That must have hurt. I was always frightened of being along the foul lines for this very
reason. The one reason that I'd bring a glove to every game. I didn't care if I'd catch
a ball, I just didn't want to get hit.

Back when I was in the little league, I was pretty well known for "taking one for the team."
They tried to cure me of this - ended up hitting me pretty hard in the gut (though I'm sure
not anywhere near as hard as a foul ball); dropped me. Had to learn how to bunt after this.

Oh, yeah! It surprised the hell out of me. I've been hit a few times, photographing our local mnor league team, the Indians, but never like that. I usually kept my concentration on the game better than that, but the mascot had been fucking with me (for a laugh) and the player I needed to photograph was trying to steal third, right in front of me. I could not miss that.

It was actually a cool job. I got thirty dollars an hour to photograph a game and an additional one hundred fifty for each shot they published. I had seven shots published one afternoon. Not a bad day of work for a shutterbug.
