I will be seeing the arrogant individual at work today. The good thing is that others are now complaining about his attitude, so it's not just me.
What kinds of things is the arrogant person doing?
I'm curious about that too.
He has criticized the food we make (and no, he's not a cook himself), tried to boss me around, taken things without asking and then lied about it, defied an order from the boss and lied about it when he was caught...and he's
moody, so some days he seems almost friendly and other days he barely answers when you say hi. (I don't think he's on the spectrum, either, I just think he likes to talk to people his own age and can't be bothered with the rest of us. He really is not a team player, and most of us are, so his indifference to us bothers me more than it should.) Oddly enough, he's not really confrontational; he does passive-aggressive things, like mumbling insults rather than saying them for everyone to hear. Lately I've realized that he and I are a lot alike, except that I was raised to be meeker. He's really not a
bad guy, just has a bad attitude. Maybe he'll mature out of it somewhat (he's not even 20 yet).
I'm definitely learning about myself by watching my reactions to him. Why do I let myself take his rudeness so personally? Why do I feel
insulted that a young kid, who will probably quit the job within a year, doesn't warm up to our (OK, to MY
) efforts at friendliness? When I'm not in full-blown PMS
mode, I can see how ridiculous it is.
