my point was that i went throughthe whole bloody album and changed the tags by hand, and winamp wouldn't edit them.  saasnfrassnrassndickdastardly.   

NO, delete it from your library, then cue it to play. You don't even have to play it. Usually works for me.

It does not auto update tags in the library to match a channge in a file. (That's dodgy!) What it does is add another instance of the file with the new info.
