Trent Reznor doesn't exactly write the most stable-sounding lyrics.  I think at one point I realized (to my amusement) that the line "I wanna fuck you like an animal" is the second or third least fucked-up line in the song Closer.

That's part of his brilliance. When you take the whole context of a song and try to come up with a single meaning it just makes you wonder what the hell was he trying to say. Perverse? Yes! But mind-provoking.

His songs make statements; just sometimes they are so emotional/impressionistic that that can't be summed up very well.  As for 'trying,' I don't know if I believe his songs have directly intended interpretatinos.  He was on a lot of drugs when he wrote most of them.

This song is my lastest addiction (I have the non-live version).  I originally got it off of iTunes a few months ago because I thought it would be hilariously bad, which was my original impression on the first few listens... but now I actually like the song in a non-ironic way.

so I can block out the bastard who sang Falling Slowly last night on American Idol from my mind. I think I would have preferred missing the beginning of Fringe than listening to a replay of all the horrible singers. This shit should be off by 8:59 not 9:02 dammit!
