The Geneology thread
« on: March 10, 2021, 02:26:30 PM »
MY wife had me investigate her great uncle who apparantly was a sailor and died in World War II.

I've got hold of a copy of his birth certificate, his war record and a photograph of him from a website devoted to his ship.  He was killed when HMS Neptune sailed into an unknown mine field 15 miles off Tripoli, North Africa, on 18th December 1941.  Of the 764 crew only one person survived and was picked out of the water by an Italian ship 5 days later.

He was only 17 years old.
Ever got that feeling that you're trying to teach a dog a card trick?

Poor kid.

I have relatives who died in WW2, not much older than that, and my grandfather drove ambulances during the war. He never spoke about it himself, I had to ask my mum.
