Was getting a massage in one of the massage chairs during my tea break and reading this thread (probably be ause of the proximity to everyday people I knew well enough to ask and what I was reading) . it struck me how on the face of it, a forum describe as I did above, talking up the merits of avoiding arguments (for whatever reason) would generally be all for arguments. it would want more not less

I've been here for 7 years despite being a person who avoids arguments like the plague.
A place can provide an environment that encourages debating without every member necessaily wanting
to take advantage of it.  I take advantage of the smilies and the permission to use foul language, myself.  :orly:

Have seen you disagree with people before. Arguments aren't necessarily heated.

That's true.  I guess I'm thinking of callout-level arguments.  :orly:

I have participated in one callout and won because the other person didn't make the effort to answer me properly.

I usually stay out of arguments because I lack the smarts to argue my side.

I do not think you lack the smarts

When do we start banning "hate speech"??   :zoinks:

Is it against the TOS?

Personally, I hold different standards here than I do for local IRL laws.

Though I'll still do my damnedest to rip the shit out of anyone that goes after people I care about.

CBC-TEhe freedom of recourse to profanity means most when not 'given' but  taken.  As with personal freedom/liberty its not something true to its nature if it is handed, however compliantly by another (in the sense that in being given or upheld in any way but to take the position of 'this is how things are going to work round here and better not drop a turd on my doorstep that is too big for you to swallow'. Otherwise, its just a mealy-mouthed way of insinuating 'we say you may, by our good graces and sufferance, remain unmolested at this particular time, because you aren't doing and/or saying anything we do not consider acceptable; but we can take back our 'gift' of 'freedom' and round you all up into concentration camps if we ever decide you must not be free'

Real freedom cannot be given by another party. Assisting in wresting it from those who seek to deny it of course is perfectly viable; but if a thing may be given then it can also be taken, and hence granted freedom, is false freedom.

And Ren...damn hun! why think that of yourself? you are not in any measure somebody that deserves the label 'dumb'

Actually for what its worth; I reckon you are a smart 'lil cookie.

(and with that purr-some autie death stare too:) lovely) You are my kinda spazz Ren:autism:

Having an argument is a little like having sex. You have to have two willing participants...if one views it as:

A: a non-productive waste of their time
or...
B: not something they "want" to do

...you will end up wacking off in the corner...regardless of what you "think" should happen.

Enough fantasising about me, IceQueen. its kinda gross

Dream on Al...I like my victims a tad more challenging and a lot less full of themselves.

YOU have victims? Now who is full of themselves? As I said, I would prefer you to stop fantasising about me whacking off. It is kind of gross.

You are asking ME if "I" want an argument

You wouldn't get very far Al. Ren is a bright wee lass, and one we are lucky to have at I2.

A good egg all around, and one with a good head on her shoulders (and all the better for spesh straight-though-you stare, that manages to make the devil's own BBQ grill look like a viable option for hosting a bose-einstein condensate, thermally speaking)

We are lucky buggers all, to have our Renster with us.

Thankfully, as a monarch, I should remain above arguments.  (That's what I try to remember before I hit post.)
A good monarch is a treasure. A good politician is an oxymoron.

My brain is both uninhibited and uninhabited.
