Supermoon
« on: November 13, 2016, 06:21:27 PM »
Quote
If you look up at the moon in the next day or two, you might notice it looks bigger and brighter than usual.
Bigger in fact, than it has appeared at any point in the last 68 years, NASA scientists say.

We won't see another supermoon likes this until 2034, so make sure you get a look.

A "supermoon" occurs when the moon becomes full on the same day as its perigee, the point in the moon's orbit when it is closest to Earth.

A month after the mega-supermoon, another supermoon will rise on December 14.

It too will be a sight to behold, but it'll also limit our opportunity to see something just as beautiful -- a Geminid meteor shower.

The Geminid meteor shower, an annual event, got its name because the meteors look like they're coming from the constellation of Gemini.

But the supermoon's brighter light will drastically reduce the number of meteors you'll be able to see.

NASA says we'll be lucky if we see a dozen meteors in an hour at the shower's peak, when normally the shower lights up the night sky with more than 100 meteors per hour.

As usual, overcast whenever there is an astronomical event here.

I'm stoked about the supermoon, I'll be outdoors tomorrow looking at it!   :woohoo:

I saw the supermoon. It looked big and yellow and slightly ghostly. Then, the moon always looks slightly ghostly, it's a cool planetary object, at least to look at with the naked eye.

Apparently the moon appears the same size as the sun, as the sun is 400x bigger than the moon, yet 400x further away from Earth.

Going to have a look if the skies are clear enough.

Hence eclipses.

It was shining in through the skylight last night and bright as hell.  Some advise if your building a new house or renovating one skylights in bedrooms sound nice but they let in way too much light at times,  better off putting the skylight in a bathroom or over the stairs were the extra light is a bit more useful

I saw it last night from the back porch and tonight on the way home from work. Very bright and maybe a little larger than normal? Hard to tell. But the sky was clear and the night was lit up.

A skylight over a dark stairwell is an awesome thing, it can totally turn around the feeling of the space.
You'll never self-actualize the subconscious canopy of stardust with that attitude.

Awesome tonight. It's lighting up the woods in back of the house even. Normally it's pitch black when you step out on the back porch and more than a bit creepy when you can't see what's making noise in the bushes.

I've watched far too many horror movies in my 49 years and I have a vivid imagination.  :zombie:

Our two bedroom unit is tiny but we have 3 skylights. One in the toilet, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen. All in the centre of the house.

Clouds and drizzle here. Not even the hint of light through the clouds yesterday, nor this morning. Alas.
