Honestly,  I have been around a lot of bovine critters in my life time, mostly when younger. I even roped and branded a few (they HATE that - you have to force them to do it), Burdizzo'ed a few pain in the ass bulls and boiled the horns to a stop on a few, but as far as a kicking cow thing, it usually goes the other way.

It is the cowboy or the handler who gets kicked and sometimes rather permanently (I mean once you have been kicked, you are cow kicked for the rest of your life and have the scar to prove it) by a cow or a bull or a steer or a young heifer.

As those of you who remember me know I'm a Yorkshireman - since everyone is talking about origins that makes me a Bradford mutt, English Irish and West Indian heritage but 100% northerner - I don't live in my home city any more but didn't get far, I'm still in Pennine Yorkshire. Nottingham would seem to be more-or-less  equally convenient (or equally inconvenient , depending on your outlook) from both areas.   Besides,   Lordof theAles mentioned Nottingham .

Went up there not all that long ago actually, up around Settle ways to hike on the moors. Brought back a selection of rather tasty waxcap mushrooms (scarlet waxcap, scarlet hood, and Camaryllophyllus pratensis/meadow waxcap being some of the best)

Might even be able to get transport if there was a local meetup up yorkshire ways now my mother is taking an extended dirt nap and no longer needs constant care, I'd certainly be up for it.

Grandmother used to live up in Settle. Quite a nice town by many standards.  Hell wouldn't mind living there myself, if I ever get the money to move. I don't like it here. Too much of a city shittip in many places. Although I am glad I live on the decent side of town. There are parts you really don't want to have to see. Got taken on a business trip up in ancoats a few times and christ, place is a shithole. Many of the inhabitants looking like...well like they wouldn't be far from home moaning the word 'braiiinsss' and like you would want to carry a handgun, and make sure to aim for the head or upper spinal column to make sure they do not rise again after being shot when they come running after you with a spoon. Used needles and N2O whippits lying around on the street EVERYWHERE, crackheads lighting up, even some random scabby looking tart coming up to me claiming she just got screwed over by her dealer and begging me for H. Told her to do one (not someone I know, just complete randomer. Like hell I'm a charity case. I'd have none for myself if every random shithead came with a damn begging bowl)

Making some behind-the-scenes progress with firming up some meeting plans. Will make a supplementary thread re. actual forthcoming meets (s) soon-ish.  Focussing on South/Midlands ATM, purely becuse these were initially the most salient people.

But now we have some Northerners chipping in

We seem to have two Manchester members and two Yorkshire members thus far, so I'm not so sure you need any Midlanders chipping in. But I might be able to chip in anyway, with all my usual caveats re. health /mobility.

Btw, I actually have close family in Preston, and I've been meaning to visit thenm for aaaaages. If I ever get around to doing so, woukld love to try and meet you guys same time.  But that's terribly iffy, don't hang on it (you might regret having my ugly mug in your meet-up pics anyways )

In any case, I'm totally willing to co-ordinate things , from my computer desk, for the time being.  So feel free to PM me with ideas and propsals. Also , feel free to organise a Northern meet if ya like. You guys know the possible venues, I don't  ; and I'm always happy to have work taken out of my hands .  Just keep me informed, thanks.

Well my mobility ain't fantastic. Well I'm on crutches right now and can't wear a shoe but its getting better pretty quick. Just don't expect me to run for it without collapsing in a heap afterwards and it'll be all well and good.
