Is the bottom pic Crater Lake?

Yes.

Or some lake made from a meteor (oid? ite?)

Actually, Crater Lake is a volcanic caldera like a smaller version of Yellowstone.

Not fond of brown in the least, so the bottom pic is more appealing to me.

Is the island occupied?

Visitors can walk around it if that's what you're asking.

Meant more permanent than accommodating day trips. Looks nice. Would assume being a national park area it's not inhabited in the usual sense, but wondering if maybe park type amenities, lodging and dining, campsites, ranger stations, boat rentals, and the sort.

I had a cousin who sent pics of his motorcycle trip through the western mid-west(?).  He was mad that I didn't respond.  Well, it was a hell of a lot of brown sand, rocks, mountains, etc.  Just give me black or gaudy any day.

Just looked it up and the crater area in general is a well equipped tourism venue, though the island appears to only accommodate day hikes. Wondering if people are sometimes tempted to miss the returning boat ride.

One thing I have to bitch about, is how the snow plows around here take their time in clearing the streets after a major snow dump.

Now the main arteries like Hwy 97 get plowed right away because the number of trucks and commerce that use it.

The roads that feed the major residential districts, not so much. Residential streets, forget about it!!

We've had almost 2 feet of snow in the last week and some areas are almost impassible.

I couldn't go to my storage unit, pay my bill and start my motorcycle because the parking lot and entrance were basically a skating rink of powder covered ice. The entrance/exit is on a hill  just steep enough where you can't get on the highway unless there's no traffic.

That's not even mentioning that the parking lot to my condo complex hasn't been plowed and I can barely make it in an out of my garage without getting stuck.

Fuck I'm ready for winter to be over already.  :grrr:

They're mild by "desert" standards.

We might have a week or two above 100 deg F but most of the summer is in the 80's F with nights in the 40's or 50's F.

Ah, Fahrenheit. We use Celsius.

I get it though, 100F is about 38C. Very hot. We have already had that this summer.

The thing that makes it tolerable is the cool/cold nights which act like free air conditioning.

Similar to what my parents experience in Collie, which is a town south and inland from here. Very cold nights. So much so that it killed their frangipani which they had transplanted from their previous place near where I live now.
