Deadpool 2

Shhhhhh...
Crazy, I'm halfway to crazy
Suicide would waste me
Homicide would break me
Tongue tied and tied to the tongue
Tongue tied and tied to the tongue
Oh, is life as bad as dreams
I guess that's just the way it seems

Haven't got a clue. Some horror movie on freeview channel 70 (horror channel) that I just flicked on after 'plebs' finished on ITV 2. I've only just put it on.

That, and finishing up on taking some notes in one of my lab notebooks, on a catalyst I've been having some brilliant results with after a slight modification and modification of the reaction solvent, or rather, doing it solventless, in a microwave. No, I'm not joking, I do indeed mean that rather than a water/oil/molten metal bath, the reaction vessel does indeed, go into a microwave oven as used by households the world over for reheating dinners (I've got one for the purpose of lab stuff, one of my chance random lucky finds. Had been left outside the doors of a supermarket, and after I watched for a while to make sure nobody had just bought it and was about to come back and put it in their car and drive off with it, walked over, snatched it up and scurried off with it. Quite a find really, as I really needed a microwave for things other than the ones people are going to eat (at least, not without being cleaned up, crystallized, solvent-washed, dried of solvents and then carefully weighed out first; I mean, not the likes of pizza or rewarming last night's roast or one's next door neighbor(s) if they start getting construction workers in early in the morning when I'm just about to go to bed.)

Beyond the pale. Way, way beyond the pale.

Hammilton's pharmacopia-A Clandestine chemist's tale
Interviewing an MDMA chemist, that got busted, just when he had made enough to make life comfortable for himself and his wife, guy had enough chemicals left for about another 30 pouds of MDMA, then the filth busted him. Absolutely tragic, and the way he went back and told of the days where one could walk into any pharmacy and buy say, nitric acid, aniline, acetic anhydride, its tragic,

Things have been vanishing from OTC sources even in my day. Its shitty, although the internet has been freeing us chemists big time, with the willingness of the chinese economy and the polish to fill the wishes of anyone who asks.

Shows an MDMA chemist performing a vacuum distillation of sassafrass oil, isolating safrole, before isomerizing it using KOH to isosafrole, vac distillation and finally running a buffered performic acid oxidation, making MDP2P and then an Al/Hg amalgam reduction
And OMG! It features Strike and The Hive! that was really back in the day, strike had a chemical supply company, and at the same time, Ran The Hive, probably the very first clandestine chemist online forum resources. Really brings back memories, after of course starting out in chemistry as a kid, and finally earning my wings at The Hive. Too few oldschool bees around now though. We just lost another winged brother from the old blood, cancer, IIRC :(

So many good memories, yet tempered with a sadness at what has come, and what is still coming. The young and upcoming generations now being denied easy access to supplies to learn chemistry where they wish to go further than schools show.

And funny anecdotes about throwing lumps of white phosphorus, tossing sodium and potassium metal into water and having a blast, literally. Makes me think that deliberately violently pyrophoric fuckabouts with potassium/sodium and phosphorus are a rite of passage for all chemistry hobbtists.
Beyond the pale. Way, way beyond the pale.

Last night I watched:

Alone (contestants compete to survive in Mongolia)
Care Wars
Part of a movie about a gay Chinese man who marries a woman to please his dying father while concealing his sexual orientation

Edited to add: Finished the movie this morning.  It was The Wedding Banquet.

Just finished watching all the cutscene movies from Uncharted 1-4.

Can definitely see The Last of Us's game engine in there (I know, same game creators).

La Cage Aux Folles (again) - the original movie

"I have been called gay and I have been called black.  But I have never been called French."  Fantastic line.  Team Jacob.
