Today I learnt that the driver's door latch on a Skoda Octavia is part of a single unit with the central locking motor. And that it is fucking expensive. 

I will find out in the morning if my pal at the garage has managed to find me a second hand one.

Took a while to get the part as my mate at the garage had to spend the best part of a day smashing the lock off first so he could take it to the VW breaker, but we got one off a VW Bora, £60/$100 guaranteed. I can stop climbing through the passenger door again now.

Thanks.  Just misunderstood the difference between a door bell (the button) and the door chime (the bell).  Now I realize I should have called the electrician rather than assuming he'd know I'd buy the blasted thing ASAP.
