What doesn't make you angry would be a much shorter list.

Because you know me so well. /sarcasm

But you didn't answer his question. Is there anything that anyone could reasonably do that would satisfy you on this issue?

I couldn't remember the question, I was too busy having my feelings hurt. And yes, I am being serious. I am not always :viking:.

I would be satisfied if I could walk into multiple jails around the country and not behold a sea of black and brown bodies bespectacled with few poor white ones. Or walk into a poor urban black community and not hear every other person talk about going to jail. Then to me that would mean racism is no longer institutionalised, and black communities are no longer plagued by an overwhelming jail culture which just kills it. Otherwise I don't trust anything the government has to say, and am not convinced they mean anything by an apology especially considering barely anyone knows it ever happened.

That's reasonable, although the causes are up for debate. How would this suit help with that?

Hows about we make 'reparations', if and ONLY if the respective countries agree to help undo the damage done to our societies by agreeing to take back the infestations we were left with after slavery became illegal.

We didn't see THAT coming, did we now? once slavery was banned, we should have deported the former slaves. We failed to do so, and now look what we got left with-a nigger infestation that has become completely out of control. And without even the most basic attempts at controlling the problem, they have just been left to their own devices, to breed amongst themselves, and to miscegenate freely; filling our countries with more negroes and halfbreeds.

The suit is a different aspect of this topic altogether. I am not sure on all of the details, I only understand the rationale. My emotional reaction wasn't with respect to that, it was with respect to the part of the article that mentions the US made an apology, lol.

Sometimes I cross my topics in my sentences, but no one else is aware. In my head it makes sense, and then the feedback I get indicates otherwise.

Also, Lestat is special. He is the only person who can say whatever crap he wants and it doesn't really get under my skin. Preferential? Probably. I'd like to think it has to do with something cosmic and unseen.

OK so you deny any individual or communal responsibility for those people being in jail?
In reasonableness and fairness I say those that have done crimes ought to be in there, those that have not, ought not be. You would rather take away this responsibility on basis that their forefathers generations ago were treated badly, right?

Do white descendants of Roman, Greek, et al, slavery get a claim here too?

Nobody identifies themselves as slaves of the Romans. Thats why I often bring up the Celtic (often just refering to them as the Irish :D )
However, none of the Celtic people staying safely in Ireland got any complaint against us Norwegians, because after all - we never enslaved those particular individuals - or they wouldn't be back home in Ireland, but be part of the scandinavian pale celtic freckled red-haired population :D

The red-heads would of course be the "visible" ones, plenty of them would be naturally indistinguishable from Norwegians, and their 1st generation of offspring would speak fluent Norwegian, and thus blend in perfectly - if it wasn't for an unfortunate slave caste it would likely take a few more generations to be rid of.

It's not something that can be measured pragmatically, but is purely an emotional issue: Some nations, peoples, identify themselves as ex-slaves. I have sympathy for that. Their own self-identification has no bearing on "all white people", so racists who are quick to kick them in the nuts PURELY for having had their grandfathers bail cotton, I find very unfair.
But I also find unfair if living white-people are to be blamed directly for what their ancestors did.

The most important thing here, is a bit of common, decent understanding, both ways. Hey black dude, I appreciate that your ancestors worked their asses off, and I'm not gonna kick you in the nuts for it, for being a faggy guilttrippy crybaby, cus hey, that shit is rough.
And the black dude could say Hey man, it's cool, I know you aren't directly involved in any of this, although next time you white guys win power somewhere, try to include us blackies a bit more in your society, right?
Sure, dude, sure.
Right, cya.

That is not good enough apparently.
The thing that I am trying to say is three-fold.
1) Considering the HUGE parts of the world that had a large percentage of slave population (in times gone past) AND the the incalculably large percentage of the current Earth's population that would have descended from these slaves, who would be able to lay a claim at being descended from slaves?
2) If we give the nod to the Caribbean descendants of slaves, then why not any descendent of any slave from any period of time? We are not saying existing slaves after all or from one generation ago but claiming from 100's of years ago, Why not 1600's instead of 1800's? Why not 1300's? Why not 300BC?
3) Who are we supposed to be penalising money-wise and who to benefit? As mentioned the countries do not have the money in their coffers aside for this. We also know that this would impact on the existing citizens of the countries the suit is against, who had no hand in the slave trade. But moreso we know many of them are immigrants that moved there (or ancestors moved there) after the slave trade was done and dusted. Many there are also descended from slaves themselves. So why ought these people suffer?

I agree with all that, and I don't think they are entitled to money. But I do understand where their sentiment comes from. A country like Haiti is almost _entirely_ made up of ex-slaves, almost entirely! Especially since Haiti once did a lil genocide, removing all whites from the island :D
So... I understand their grievance, and what this does to their self esteem as a nation. This is bigger than "grow up and stop whining".
But, there's a difference between understanding and condoning.
I understand why most terrorist actions happen. But I do not condone it. That's all I'm saying.

Their asking for money and using slavery as a reason is just a desperate measure from the politicians of that country to funnel money in, nothing more. I mean, why else did they think of this now? They've been aware of their history for years.

To conclude: Like Americans used to whine when Eurotrashies trashed America "hey! trash our gvt, not the people! :'O", likewisely, trash the politicians who want to exploit slavery - but people shouldn't minimalize or backlash an individuals history, "yeah yeah yeah, your own dear grandfather got whipped to death, grow a pair dude, stop whining", cus that kind of attitude is just as unfair as a black guy directly accusing a contemporary white dude for owning slaves. (I'm not accusing you of this kind of sentiment Al)

Every man is more than one aspect of himself. There are a number of things that make our identity. I do not think the viewing people as black, white or Asian or straight or gay is usually important to the discourse. Any more than your religion or nationality.

I do not think whether a person's ancestors were slaves is a big one either. Many Aussies were descended from convicts transported from UK. Should we ask for reparations? If not why not? I would say what life those ancestors could make, they made and here we are as a consequence. We are not them. They are dead and buried, our future is our responsibility

If Australia was a smelly, dysfunctional shithole - then it's not unthinkable that some politician would point at Britain and the fact that you are, indeed, a buncha ex-convicts :D
It is human to mess around with causality ;D
Now - if it did - would it be correct in doing it? No, for the reasons you said.
