Another example of Tories favouring the rich
« on: September 17, 2013, 03:59:44 AM »

The  powers that be have decided to increase the maximum jail term for
benefit fraud to 10 years.

Benefit fraud is a drop in the ocean compared to tax evasion and tax fraud.

Yes, let's just boot people even harder when they are down.

Owen Jones says it better than I ever could (see video)

Incidentally I do adore Owen Jones.  Not in a romantic way but I am very envious of his mother and would love to mother him and supply him with chicken soup etc on cold winter days.  :P

It's one of those ideas of legislation that appeals to the voter. The public thinks 27% of the people on benefit commit fraud. So, lets get the bastards. That it is less than 10% is just not sexy to tell to the public. It does not bring in votes. Tax evasion is a sport, no one would think of tackling that harder, because that would cost votes.

So, it's not about common sense, it is about appeasing the voter. Stupid idea.

The voters are kept stupid, are treated as stupid, because that is how parties get more votes.
Marketing tricks.

Pessimistic mode, when it comes to politics, today. And I did not even watch the "troonrede".

Politicians are shills for the oligarchy.

It is costly to run an effective campaign and only the rich (or in some cases labor unions) can afford to fund campaigns.
Therefore the (bought and paid for) official is beholden to the campaign funder. If they actuall legislate in favor of the electorate then they will be outspent on the next election....or even primaried.

I voted sex offenders and officials
Misunderstood.

The tories say they are the party that supports people who want to work!   Yet,  look at how they treat 'workers'   They don't want them to have any rights and 'trade unions' are just dirty words to them.

Tories are poo  :thumbdn:

The republicans say they are the party of small business owners, yet they sponsor everything which ships jobs overseas and favors the Walmart model of doing business.

It's all rhetoric.
Fuck em all.
Misunderstood.

I believe in giving lazy people a taste of jail, yes. But that includes most of the rich.
"I’m fearless in my heart.
They will always see that in my eyes.
I am the passion; I am the warfare.
I will never stop...
always constant, accurate, and intense."
