Gold certainly has a massive use-consumer electronics. Gold is extremely conductive, and is used as such sometimes such as for computer boards where speed is of importance. And whilst pricy, silver is actually THE most conductive metal.

Its not as commonly useful as things like food though.

Much easier to store, stockpile and trade though.

I'll invest in silver, you can invest in eggs and milk  :hahaha:

I was arguing that food may be a superior base for currency than silver, Possum.

Food is a commodity, not a currency  :tard:

Fact: you can't eat silver.

I'm reading some books by Pliny the Elder now. He lived almost 2000 years ago. He says that it was a great evil that gold and silver were ever discovered. Already 2000 years ago.

No, but seriously.  I'm not going to explain the difference between a medium of exchange and the products for which one exchanges.  Obviously there will always be a place for barter, and arguing that barter will exist does not negate the existence of a currency system anymore than it does at present.

I'm not saying we should go back to a barter system. I'm saying we should make it a lot more difficult to stockpile everything of value. Sure, a symbolic currency is more advanced than barter and offers a lot of benefit, but the value backing the currency is presently too simple for those that have a lot of it to manipulate as they see fit.

Do you disagree?

That has nothing at all to do with anything that I was saying

Spooner has some interesting things to say about gold and silver - he wrote this already in 1878: Gold and Silver as Standards of Value

So you're saying silver has nutritional value?

The future doesn't matter. Possum's feelings are hurt by reality and human biology. Feelings are more important than the future.
