The vast majority of those I've encountered on teh interwebz have been obnoxious dimwits entirely undeserving of any respect at all, let alone a friendly introduction.

I realise that one's arrival is considered the appropriate time for an introduction, but thus far, I have yet to see any evidence that a percentage of people here aren't one of the above.

No I don't think anyone would demand that of you or any newbie. We kind of expect them not to hang around which makes introductions kind of redundant if you think about it.
